NEW BREEDLOVE HAWAIIAN GUITAR

I’m currently playing a prototype Breedlove Hawaiian guitar based on my 1920’s era Style 2 Weissenborn that is proving to be a really excellent instrument. I brought my old Style 2 to Breedlove last year and Jayson Bowerman and I spent a good day examining, inspecting and measuring this fine instrument.

We are working on two versions of this guitar; one will be a standard Weissenborn style Hawaiian. The second version will have some very interesting modifications, most notably to the fretboard. This guitar’s fretboard will be slightly thicker on the bass side with partial frets below the bottom three strings. This allows me to play pieces like “Homage,” for example, where I’m playing with the slide and fretting a bass string with my little finger at the same time.

We hope to have a small batch of these instruments ready for sale in early 2008. I love the one I’m playing and expect that these guitars will be absolutely superb.

This year’s workshop will cover a myriad of topics
in a “Master Class” format.

Attendees should have a piece or two prepared to play for the class. We’ll use your music as the basis to cover a myriad of topics that include composition, arranging, performance, interpretation, connecting emotionally with the music, technique and more. What we’ll cover:

As always, the main focus will be on listening. This time the focus is on listening to YOU.

We’ll work with what you’re already doing and make that better. Everyone will get a chance to play and receive some intensive feedback on their playing We’ll work on tone, dynamics, expression and more. Students should have at least two years of fingerstyle guitar playing experience. Seating is limited to allow for individual attention to each student.
